Wester tanagers are found from Alaska to Central America migrating during different seasons. Here I painted a male tanager, which has it's distictive red head during the breeding season. They gets this color from a pigment called rhodoxanthi that they get from their diet.

I painted this piece with acrylic on an acid free paper. Acrylic paint is great to use when you want to work fast and you want a smooth finish.
Acid free paper can withstand better the elements of the environment in comparison to normal paper. The finished look when working on paper is a smooth smooth surface.
